Talking about time by the way. Do you think you have it? Well, you might, and you might not. Can you plan for sure what you are going to do tomorrow, or a year from now? Or when you retire? Nope, you can’t. Any moment in life, it can end. Any moment in life, it can change, and what you were planning to do in a year or in five years changes totally. The only time you have is now. It sounds pretty depressing, and it is in a way. If you think you have enough time to do it all, you might be doing the wrong things now, planning to do the important things later. And then you end up realizing there wasn’t enough time to do what was really important. If you gamble with time, you are betting all you got. You go all in, but you are not sure to win. Whatever you choose to do, you also choose not to do something else. If you think you can wait doing things until you get the time, you might never get around to do them. That is when we get regrets. You don’t want that. We will talk more about that later.

But there is also hope. Have you ever heard about someone who is really close to death, someone who is battling some deadly disease or suffered a really serious accident, on the edge of life and death and survives? What do they always say? Yes, they have learnt to appreciate life much more now. They learn to take it day by day. They learn to live here and now. Here, in this moment, that is where their focus is. They do what they like to do. They take care of their family and friends. They try to live their dreams. Many people claim that their lives have been made fuller by the experience. Quite often this kind of battles can be life changing, and we can learn something from these people.

They learnt from the experience of being close to death. They learnt that they will not live forever. They learnt that the only time that really matters is now. What we do with our lives here and now. If we really want to be sure to do something, we have to do it now. We cannot postpone life until tomorrow, or next year. Because life is just a lot of moments. Life exists only right now. In this moment. If you make the moments matter, you make your life matter.

Every moment is also full of opportunities. You have some time. You don’t know how long. But no matter how long it is, you need to use it right. If we think we have just one life. I mean one time on this earth. One chance to truly live. How come we are not running like crazy chasing our dreams? Are we happy to spend this time we have here on average? I think not. I believe we have to live our lives to the fullest.

But we need to be smart about it. We need to figure out a bit what living to the fullest mean. Because of the uncertainty of it, we need to be smart and live now. At the same time, we also need to make sure that we are not creating problems for ourselves in the future. We need to get the most we can out of life. What you do in the now determines you level of joy in the moment. But what you do now also shapes the future, what you can do in the future. Every action you take sets you on a path towards the future. It gives you a direction, where your life is heading. So, what can we do to try to find the balance between living entirely now, but still thinking about the future?

First of all, we need to live with passion. We need to do something we love because otherwise our time here, however long it is, is not lived to the fullest. Second, we need to live in a way that doesn’t limit our possibilities of having a good life in the future. We cannot live only now, without having an eye on the future consequences of our choices. So, for example, we need to think about retirement a bit. We need to save up some money so we don’t spend the end of our lives living in the street. And third, we need to try to live in a way that gives us a chance of a longer and healthier life. The body is our tool to be able to experience the joys of life. If the body is out of shape, we cannot enjoy life as others can. Better health means we can enjoy life more in each moment and also live for a longer time. How we take care of our body decides whether we have a long and healthy life, or not. The time we have, no matter how long it is, have to be spent wisely, doing things we love, filling our time with those moments of joy. But we have to be careful and also consider our lives in the future, so that we don’t let our current choices ruin our future, or for how long we can really enjoy life to the fullest.
